Just good habits with Sharon Barry

I focus mostly on commercial photography, but every now and then I get the opportunity to help people bring their goals and dreams online by crafting beautiful websites. I met Sharon a year ago and we instantly clicked! She’s also a triathlete and loves eating everything in a bowl, just like myself. Think smoothie bowls for breakfast, gigantic salad bowls for lunch and heartwarming soups for dinner…all after an intense workout!

Initially, we started chatting about creating an “life in a bowl” cookbook, one that will feature her favourite recipes, and where we would have been able to point out the nutritional advantages of eating mostly plant-based colourful meals. The conversation evolved in different directions, eventually driving Sharon to take all her expertise from years of athletic performance and home cooking to the next level—focusing on helping others achieve their highest potential through food in a more personal way. After retiring from 30+ years in sales, Sharon ventured into a new career path and finished her certification as nutrition and lifestyle coach.

In February 2020, we set out to develop a brand for her new business. I designed a logo for her coaching services, along with her website—which included a full-day photoshoot surrounded by fresh ingredients and home-made pasta.

Branding: Logo, Business Cards and Website

The logo was created with Sharon in mind, so it had to be friendly but also show strength, for which I combined a calligraphy typeface very similar to her handwriting with a sans serif bold typeface. For achieving big goals, one must be flexible yet consistent and focused. We believe Sharon’s new branding speaks to that, along with the freshness of her food and vitality of her lifestyle. Greens were used to resemble nature’s freshness and orange for its energized feel.

Photography

We created a list of “musts” to cover for the website, which included the main banners for each of the four sections of the site, along with action-shots to complement her story and service description. We captured images of Sharon cooking, working on client’s schedules, writing down recipes and plating big bowls of goodness.
