Creativity Lab Report #17: Spring feasts and trails

Hello friends! I'm happy you're here because it means we share the same passion for keeping print media alive and a deep fascination for people's journeys.

I am delighted to report that Hamaka is now in six countries, thanks to the kind support of our retail partners. When I started this project, I never imagined my humble magazine would make it to Europe. I must admit that it is exciting but also terrifying! I hope to live up to the expectations and inspire everyone who reads Hamaka the way the featured makers inspired me.

If you want to help bring the magazine to more homes, please share this email with your friends, gift a copy to a loved one, or help us connect with stockists in your area.

Spring Spark

March is one of my favourite months of the year. Anticipation, optimism and hope are in the air as we start seeing the first signs of spring; little buds on the top of bare tree branches, birds singing, and bright pops of colour. Farm fields also start coming to life while we dream of the first asparagus and strawberries. The days also get noticeably longer, and I get one year older as it is my birthday month!

To celebrate, I want to share my favourite recipes with you and extend a birthday 30% discount on the Live Well Collection, a family cookbook I created with a good chef friend that combines many flavourful recipes with heartfelt family stories and culinary tips. Use the code SPRINGSPARK at checkout and prepare for a feast of flavours! I'd love our cookbook to be part of your special family gatherings too!

In this neck of the woods

We attended one of the Vancouver Mountain Film Festival shows last week and instantly started dreaming about all the outdoor adventures we hope to experience this year. If you need inspiration, there is still time to get the online pass and watch some of the films featured at the festival. Remember to plan your adventures responsibly and leave the trails better than you find them.

On the bookshelf

A year of trails must begin with a book about trails. A neighbour gifted me with On Trails by Robert Moor, and it quickly became one of my favourite books. It is fascinating how much trails can do for all living beings and how they've helped us better understand the world, from ants' paths to internet networks, all weaved through science, history, philosophy, personal stories and nature writing.

On air

I'm pretty sure that the word "normal" hasn't been repeated as much throughout history as it had been said in the wake of the pandemic. But what is "normal," and how is modern culture affecting our well-being? The conversation with Gabor Maté in the Rich Roll Podcast is an excellent introduction to Maté's latest book, The Myth of Normal. I'll report back after I finish reading the book.
