Creativity Lab Report #7: Keep going, celebrate the Sun and build Atomic Habits!
Making these newsletters can be very time-consuming, especially so when time is of the essence. Most of them require plenty of reading, writing and re-writing time, as we don't just recommend everything we read, only those books, articles and quotes that generate an impact on us.
We would never stop reading and learning, but we often ask ourselves if it is really worth sharing our thoughts. And every time we get close to pulling the plug and stop, there's always that one person that says the right comment at the perfect time. Thank you, Michael and Jeff, for reminding us that sharing what inspires us can inspire others too!
If you have a particular hobby or side hustle that makes you feel the same way, keep it going, even when you don't think it is worth it... It is, and maybe it will pay off in the future!
Book: Atomic habits
In tune with the previous paragraph, Atomic Habits by James Clear explains how little things add up and create beautiful outcomes if you remain patient and consistent.
The book starts by defining atomic as "an extremely small amount of a thing, an irreducible unit." And habit as "a routine or practice performed regularly—an automatic response to a specific situation." The book's premise is that the quality of our lives depends on the quality of our habits.
The author deconstructs habits into four aspects: cue, craving, response and reward, and offers tips on designing our environment and lifestyle for success. Part of it means redefining our identity and reinforcing behaviours that would lead to consistent positive action. This includes the four laws of building better habits: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy and make it satisfying.
"Humans are herd animals. Often, we follow the traditions of our culture without thinking, questioning and remembering." However, by identifying the person we want to be, we can shift from the norm and craft our surroundings to who we want to become.
A brew from the Sun
We aim to live in sync with nature as much as our modern lifestyle allows. Part of that means following the Earth rhythms, guided by the Summer and Winter Solstice and Spring and Fall Equinox. So during our yearly summer solstice celebration, we had the idea to craft a unique, vibrant brew with our local friends from Booch Organic Kombucha.
We couldn't hold the excitement any longer! An idea that sparked during the longest day of the year, and has been brewing for a few weeks, will be ready to enjoy before the end of the season–to reminisce and be thankful for this summer!
Watch the first teaser here: Hamaka-Booch collab-brew Teaser 1 and stay tuned for the official launch!
Let's talk pottery
Find us at the cottage tomorrow afternoon... we mean at the Cottage Pottery Studio. We'll be selling some of our first pottery bowls at the studio's summer sale! It starts today, Friday, from 5-9:30 pm with an art exhibit. And continues on Saturday, August 20th, from 10-6pm and Sunday, August 21st, from 11-5pm with an outdoor sale. We'd love to see you there!
Live Well Collection update
Week #4 was the most mentally draining so far! Many things broke, Shauna and I had multiple disagreements, and we had to make decisions that could affect the entire project. The good news is that we pushed through, talked things out and made it to the other side feeling stronger! That's what good friends do! Week #5 was a little smoother; we moved into the comfort foods chapter of the book and had a full house on Friday, with Carl and Dan keeping us happy and entertained all day long!
Follow the links above to read the full recaps from each week and watch the behind-the-scenes vids! :)
